25 Years of Beers: Limited Releases

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Holgate Head Brewer Chris Brady and team will be producing ‘25 Beers for 25 Years’ in both keg and cans. Here are our releases so far:

Tropical Hazy IPA (WOTW collab)

When brainstorming a collaboration beer with Josh from Wolf of the Willows, it was no surprise when our collective minds drifted to a big, juicy IPA. Low on bitterness, with a silky mouthfeel from the malted oats, we used Australian hops, as well as real blood orange, guava and lime to create a Tropical Hazy as juicy as a Mai Tai on the beach at sunset.

Sparkling Ale

Half A World Away - Imperial Red (People's Choice)

Take a journey from Woodend, to the forest, fjords and tundras with our People’s Choice ‘Half A World Away’ Imperial Red (in collaboration with @craftypint). Originally brewed back in 2013, when we did a brewer exchange with Nøgne Ø in Norway, this big, complex red ale is full bodied, deep red in colour, and all about the layers of malty goodness.

NZ Pils (Fox Friday collab)

We collaborated with Justin Corbitt from Fox Friday to create a hoppy yet approachable NZ version of a classic Pils. A new world beer with its roots in the Pilsner tradition, we picked NZ hops with strong Euro genetics (NZ Pacifica, Motueka and Riwaka), along with German hop Tettnang, Gladfield (NZ) Pilsner malt, and a splash of German Carapils and Chit malt. The result? An NZ Pilsner with a blend of pithy citrus and herbal spice, as clean and crisp as a morning in Wānaka.

Gaffer - English Pale Ale

‘Gaffer’ (British, informal): The Boss, Landlord
Last call, ladies and gents! ‘The Gaffer’ English Pale Ale is serving earthy, herbal hop characters, a light malt and medium bitterness. Super limited, get a pint in before the landlord calls ‘time’.

Brown Ale

This Northern English style Brown Ale pours a deep copper colour and displays rich malty aromas of chocolate fudge cake. The palate is light with nutty, biscuity malts coming to the fore and a touch of spicy hop. The sweet malts are balanced by a light bitterness to create a dry finish that makes this a superbly moreish drop reminiscent of the classic Brown Ales of Blighty.

Dunkel Hefe Weiss (CUB collab)

We’ve collaborated with former Holgate brewer Ian Morgan, who is now at CUB (proudly part of Asahi Beverages). Together, we’ve created a classic Hefe Dunkelweizen with all the notes of yeast-derived banana and clove you’d expect - plus a dark malty backdone with lashings of dark fruit cake and toasted pumpernickel. Pouring a rich dark amber, one sip and you’ll be hearing tubas. Prost!

Altbier (Aunty Jacks collab)

Traditionally brewed in Düsseldorf, Altbier is a well balanced, lagered German ale. An aroma of fresh bread dough and biscuity malt blends with hints of orchard fruit from the German yeast. Toasty with a lingering herbal bitterness on the palate, finishing dry and hoppy. Best served with sausage, schnitzel or your favourite beer hall snack.

Dank AF - West Coast IPA (Noodledoof collab)

Escape the grind with our ‘Dank AF’ West Coast IPA. In collaboration with Noodledoof, this old school IPA is heavy on classic US hops. Dank as Venice Beach at 4.20, it’s loaded with flavours of pithy citrus, pine forest, and a hit of bright stone fruit. Crack one open and enjoy the ride.

Midnight Cowboy - A Wild Barrel Project (White Rabbit collab)

White Rabbit brewer, Nick started the ‘Midnight Cowboy Project’ back in 2013, while working at Holgate. This mission saw Holgate experiment with wild sour beer fermentation for the first time. Our 2024 ‘Midnight Cowboy - A Wild Barrel Project’, is a tribute to this posse of Holgate renegades riding across the frontier of Australian sour beer. Expect flavours of dark fruit, dusty cocoa and bright cherries, along with notes of oak and forest floor, and a bright balsamic acidity. Saddle up for a wild ride.

Belgian Blonde Ale (Love Shack collab)

In collaboration with Love Shack Brewing Company, this Belgian Blonde Ale pours a rich golden colour with a billowing blonde head. Enjoy notes of spicy clove, honey and jasmine on the nose, and flavours of pithy lemon, apricot and peaches. Super limited, be sure to fill your tankards with this refreshing yet complex beer

Baltic Porter (Bendigo Brewing collab)

Once upon a time, the Baltic people called upon Ragutis, the god of beer, to provide them with sustenance through the long winters. A few centuries later, Baltic brewers took the English porter recipe and added lager yeast, creating a smoother, toastier character. This collaboration with Bendigo Brewing is a celebration of the classic Baltic Porter style, fermented cold with lager yeast, to create notes of chocolate, vanilla, raisin bread and even a gentle hint of rum. Perfect for summoning the spirit of Ragutis on a long winter’s night.

Imperial Stout (Barrel-Aged)

Entwined - Mixed Ferment Rye Saison (Molly Rose collab)
