It’s back! Reloaded and re-released, this old school IPA brings a massive hop arsenal to create citrus, pine and spice on a chewy malt backbone. Hasta la vista, baby.

When it was first released in 2008, our American DIPA Hopinator was something out of the ordinary, being a rich, malty and bitter beast. In the intervening years, double IPAs became commonplace and more recently the IPA pendulum has swung to the opposite end of the spectrum with the market being awash with sweet and juicy hazies. Here at Holgate our brewers love playing with new trends but also like to dance to forge our own path! So, they thought it was the perfect time to improve on the original Hopinator recipe and unleash an uncompromising old school DIPA onto an unsuspecting world!

Tasting Notes

Although it has a slightly a leaner malt backbone than its 2008 forebear, Hopinator 2020 still features a deliciously chewy malt character from premium Vienna and Crystal malts. The hop profile blends the dank and resinous with the light and citrus. Properly bitter like an old school IPA should be, and lashings of classic US “C” hops in the whirlpool build a delightfully dank profile of citrus, spice and pine. Meanwhile, massive dry hopping with Amarillo and Ahtanum blends in a huge citrus fruit character of orange, lemon and grapefruit. The finish is dry, bitter and, as they say in the classics, dangerously moreish.
