Our 12.5% ABV triple-fermented, barrel-aged, hand crafted, hand labeled, hand waxed strong ale is available in 750ml champagne-style bottles at the following fine retailers of quality beverages.  Only 200 bottles, and they have all been sold, so once they’re off the shelf no more til next “vintage”!

Road Trip IPA

The perfect accompaniment to any summer day! Road Trip is an American IPA brewed with three varieties of hops from the Pacific Northwest of the US.  This beer was inspired by a recent trip made by the Holgate family to the states of Washington and Oregon, which enjoy a thriving craft brewing industry.

Our new brew will be released in kegs in early February– so come up to the Brewhouse to enjoy this refreshing ale.

New devotees to the sweet nutty are signing up daily!  Our medium bodied brown ale is brewed with roasted macadamia nuts and hopped with a cleansing dose of Cascades.  At 5.2% ABV it remains an easy drinking ale – the perfect drop for a cool autumn day!

We underestimated the power of the Nut Brown after our first two batches and have quickly sold out of kegs.  Another batch is in the works and we should be rolling out the barrels for our draft devotees in time for our birthday party at Mrs. Parma’s on 21 June.  Stay tuned…

We do have a fair swag of bottles on hand, though!  As of press time you should be able to grab a stubbie of our 10th Anniversary Nut Brown Ale at the following premium venues:

Holgate anniversary Nut Brown Ale available this Friday, 8 May

Our new Nut Brown Ale will be available starting Friday at select destinations!  Cloudwine Cellars in South Melbourne should have it on the shelves – local courier services willing – and other venues to come on board soon.

To celebrate ten years of brewing great beers, we delved into Paul Holgate’s old homebrewing recipe book for a brown ale brewed in the style of the English classic, but with a twist – roasted macadamia nuts thrown in along with a blend of six different malts.  The candied macadamia flavor comes across on the nose, especially when seved at a nice cellar temp of 10-12 degrees (the ambient temperature of my house at the moment!).  We hopped it up with some Cascades, lending the beer a nice cleansing finish to the palate.  At 5% ABV it remains an easy drinking ale for these cool autumn nights.

If you happen to be in Woodend on Friday night, we’re throwing a little birthday party with free tastings of the Nut Brown Ale, prizes, and more!  The bash kicks off at 6:30 pm.

It you’re unable to make the trip, we are plotting a beer degustation dinner with the good people at Mrs. Parma’s with a range of Holgate beers on offer, including the Nut Brown Ale on tap!

Year of the Bull

Happy New Year!  We have ushered in the Year of the Ox  Bull here at Holgate with a ripping Australia Day weekend.  As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary year we have started to mull over our recipe for an Anniversary Ale, to be released in the autumn.  Keep posted for more news on this limited release beer!

Our First Annual 2008 Christmas Ale is in bottles and ready to go!

This once-a-year release is brewed as a “wee heavy” at 8.5% ABV.  We aged it on French oak for three months and infused it with a touch of spice.  It’s a Christmas pudding in a bottle!  Best enjoyed at 12 degrees Celsius from a brandy snifter or red wine glass to fully enjoy its heady bouquet.  This beer will age well for several years if kept in a cool, dark place. 

The perfect gift for the beer lover who has everything, or simply as a personal indulgence.  With only 200 hand numbered 12-packs available, this is truly a limited edition beer and will be offered on a first come/first served basis.
