This hotel was originally built as the main Cobb & Co. stop-over
from Melbourne to the Bendigo Goldfields. After a
tiring day of coach travel from Melbourne, the horses would be changed or rested in the stables
out back, and the travellers would have a well earned rest in what
was then known as "The Commercial Hotel". |

The Keating family owned and ran the hotel from the early 1900s to
about 1940, when it was sold but the Keating name has remained.
Stylishly refurbished by the Holgates, the original solid brick hotel now houses 10
queen-sized bed-rooms - each with own ensuite and fabulous views
across the village of Woodend or Mt Macedon itself. Like the
original travellers, a stay at Holgate Brewhouse is a refuge from
your hard-days touring! And nothing is better than indulging in a
few Holgate draught beers, or superb local wines, with only a short
wander upstairs to bed!
